How to Manage Goals in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales CRM

by | Aug 9, 2018 | Microsoft Dynamics 365

Calculating and managing goals

Last time in Microsoft Dynamics Support, we looked at how to set up a new goal and goal metrics in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales CRM.

This week, we’ll dig deeper into how to manage goals in Microsoft Dynamics 365.

You’ll first need to create the goals, goal metrics, and rollup fields you plan to use. You can find instructions on how to create new goals, goal metrics, and rollups here.

Once you have set up your goals, see below for video and instructions on how to manage goals in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales:

Calculating goals

Microsoft Dynamics 365 automatically calculates goals every 24 hours by default. If you need more frequent updates, a system administrator can set those calculations to happen more frequently from System Settings.

You can also force the system to recalculate goals by clicking the Recalculate button on the command bar of your Active Goals view:

To check when a goal was last calculated, go to Sales > Goals, choose a goal, then scroll down to Actuals to see the Last Rolled Up Date:

Managing goals

You can view your goals with any of the system views using the Progress against goals report.

You also can use any of the out-of-the-box goals, including:

  • Goal Progress (Money)
  • Goal Progress (Count)
  • Percentage Achieved
  • Today’s Target vs. Actuals (Count)
  • Today’s Target vs. Actuals (Money)

To view or edit goals as an administrator, go to Sales > Goals:

To see which records are used to calculate your goals, open a goal, then look to the left under Participating Records:

Then, click on one of the rollups to view those records:
